Luxury Maternity Photography: More Than a Session, It’s a Celebration of You
In a world full of photographers and endless phone snaps, it’s easy to forget that pregnancy is worth more than just a few pretty pictures. A maternity session with me isn’t just about documenting your baby bump—it’s about stepping into a moment designed entirely around you. From the first fitting to the final frame on your wall, I offer a luxury photography experience that’s immersive, intentional, and custom-crafted to honor your motherhood journey in the most beautiful way possible.
A Private Gown Fitting to Begin Your Experience
Luxury begins with the details—and it all starts with your personalized, in-home gown fitting.
Instead of showing up to a session with just a few options on hand, I offer over 70 beautiful designer maternity gowns for you to choose from. Before your in-home fitting, we’ll discuss your preferred colors, styles, and overall vision for your session. Then, I’ll bring a curated selection of around 10 to 12 gowns that match your preferences for you to try on.
Luxury begins with the details—and it all starts with your personalized, in-home gown fitting. You get to explore textures, mix and match accessories, and discover which gowns make you feel confident, radiant, and comfortable. From romantic lace to dramatic tossing trains, sparkling sequins to rich satin in every color imaginable—this is your moment to feel celebrated, pampered, and truly seen.
We don’t rush. We play dress-up, laugh, and treat you like royalty. You deserve to feel like the most beautiful version of yourself even before you step in front of the camera. We Design Your Session—Down to the Last Detail
Once we’ve chosen your gowns, we design your session around them.
I’ll guide you in selecting the perfect outdoor location—whether that’s a sweeping mountain view, a field of wildflowers, or a striking urban backdrop—to enhance your wardrobe and give your images a cohesive, elevated look. Together, we’ll style your entire family so that every outfit works beautifully with the aesthetic you’ve chosen.
This is where luxury means more than pretty—it means intentional. Every piece, every color, every accessory serves the bigger picture: creating timeless, emotional, gallery-worthy portraits.
A Creative Experience, Not Just a Photoshoot
When your session day arrives, you won’t be left guessing. I’ll gently guide you through each pose with confidence and care, using lighting and angles that highlight your unique beauty and that baby bump you’ve been waiting to celebrate.
But this isn’t just about clicking the shutter—this is art direction. I photograph with purpose, visualizing the final piece of art while we shoot. Whether I’m capturing a quiet, powerful silhouette or an ethereal landscape moment, I approach every image with creativity and intention.
The result? A session that feels calm, connected, and completely curated for you.
Turning Photographs Into Fine Art
After your session, the magic continues. We’ll sit down together to view your images, and I’ll help you choose your favorites and design custom printed artwork to hang in your home. I offer professional, archival-quality prints, wall art, and albums that are made to last—and made to be seen.
And because every mother’s vision is unique, I offer custom artistic enhancements to your final images. Dreaming of blooming florals? A softly glowing sunset? A fairytale castle on the horizon? I can bring your imagination to life, turning your portraits into museum-worthy pieces that reflect your story, not just your setting.
This is not about filters or quick edits—this is about transforming your imagery into heirloom artwork.
Because Your Story Deserves to Be Seen
This process isn’t about snapping a few maternity shots. It’s about creating something you’ll cherish forever. It’s about stepping into a moment that celebrates not just your pregnancy, but everything it symbolizes: growth, transformation, beauty, strength.
Luxury maternity photography with me is not just an appointment on your calendar—it’s a memory in the making. It’s a chance to slow down, to be pampered, to be seen and celebrated as you are in this powerful chapter of your life.
So let’s create something beautiful—something that lives on your walls, not just your screen.
Something that your children will one day point to and say, “That’s when you were carrying me.”

Waneka Park Maternity Sessions: Lafayette Maternity Photographer
I’m always on the lookout for beautiful maternity photography locations, and Waneka Park in Lafayette is one of my favorites. This scenic spot is perfect for expectant moms who want a peaceful, easy-to-access setting that offers a variety of stunning backdrops for their maternity portraits.
Location: Waneka Park, Lafayette, CO
I’m always on the lookout for beautiful maternity photography locations, and Waneka Park in Lafayette is one of my favorites. This scenic spot is perfect for expectant moms who want a peaceful, easy-to-access setting that offers a variety of stunning backdrops for their maternity portraits.
Highlights of Waneka Park
Waneka Park features a charming old barn and a gorgeous lake with a mountain backdrop, both of which make for timeless and striking maternity photos. One of the best things about this location is its year-round versatility. Spring, summer, and fall provide lush, vibrant scenery, while winter brings a quiet, serene landscape that is perfect for intimate maternity portraits.
This mix of natural beauty and classic structures makes Waneka Park ideal for Lafayette maternity photography sessions that feel both personal and visually captivating.
Best Time of Day for Photography
For the most flattering and magical light, I always recommend scheduling maternity sessions during golden hour. The warm, soft glow around sunset perfectly illuminates the barn, lake, and mountains, creating breathtaking portraits that will be treasured for years. Sessions outside of golden hour may not capture the same depth and warmth in the images, so timing is key for the best results.
Accessibility
Waneka Park is easy to navigate, making it an excellent choice for expectant moms and families with children. There’s a convenient parking lot, and both the barn and lake are just a short walk from the lot. This accessibility allows you to move between different scenic spots effortlessly, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable maternity session experience.
Tips for Your Session
There isn’t an on-site changing area, so plan to change in your car or arrive dressed for your session.
Keep styling simple and elegant to complement the natural textures and seasonal tones of the park.
Consider gowns and accessories that add pops of color or texture to enhance the beauty of the outdoor backdrop.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re dreaming of a classic barn setting, a lakeside mountain view, or a quiet winter scene, Waneka Park offers all of this and more. It’s one of my favorite locations for Lafayette maternity photography, providing endless possibilities for creating timeless, fine-art maternity portraits.
If you’re ready to plan your session at Waneka Park, I’d love to help you create maternity portraits that are both beautiful and meaningful. Contact me today to book your Lafayette maternity photography session and capture this special season of your life.

Inclusive Photography for Children With Disabilities | Denver Maternity Photographer
Working with children is one of the greatest joys of my career. As a Denver maternity photographer for the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing hundreds of families. Over time, I’ve also had the honor of working as a Denver disability-inclusive photographer, creating meaningful portraits for families whose children may benefit from extra patience, understanding, or flexibility.
Every child is unique, and every child deserves to be celebrated exactly as they are. During my Denver family maternity sessions my goal is always to create a comfortable environment and capture genuine, heartfelt moments you’ll treasure for years.
Patience, Respect, and Adaptability
All children need patience, but supporting children with disabilities sometimes requires an additional level of attentiveness. There is no single approach that fits every child. Each child has their own preferences, sensory needs, communication styles, and ways of engaging with the world.
As an experienced Denver maternity photographer, I take time before every session to talk with parents and caregivers to learn what helps their child feel safe, what tools or routines they rely on, and anything we should be mindful of. This helps ensure the session is tailored to their child—not the other way around.
Adaptability is key:
Some children need breaks or a slower pace
Some thrive with structure
Some prefer movement and play
Some communicate non-verbally
Some have medical supports or equipment that are simply part of daily life
My job is to follow their lead and create a space that honors who they are.
A Real-Life Example
One recent session was with a wonderful boy on the autism spectrum who communicates non-verbally. He and his younger sister were both having a big-feelings day, so instead of pushing for posed portraits, I shifted the session to meet them exactly where they were.
That meant:
Giving the kids space to reset
Allowing breaks whenever needed
Photographing mom alone while the children regrouped
Focusing less on “everybody smile” and more on connection
What emerged were quiet, genuine moments—soft interactions between siblings, gentle cuddles with mom, and pieces of their story that felt honest, loving, and deeply meaningful.
This is one of the reasons families seek out a disability-inclusive photographer in Denver: experience helps create sessions that feel supportive, respectful, and pressure-free.
Why Experience Matters
When choosing a photographer for your child—especially if your child has a disability—you want someone who brings more than technical skill. You want someone who understands that communication, sensory regulation, emotional needs, and medical supports vary from child to child.
With nearly two decades of experience as a Denver photographer, I’ve photographed many children who benefit from different approaches—non-verbal communication, neurodivergence, medical complexities, mobility devices, and more. This experience has shaped my philosophy: every child deserves to be photographed with dignity and care.
Families often share that they feel supported, never judged, during their sessions—and that is incredibly important to me.
Inclusive Family Maternity Photography in Denver
Many of my clients are growing families, which means I often blend my work with children with my role as a Denver maternity photographer. Including siblings—of all ages and abilities—in maternity sessions adds even more depth and meaning.
When a child with disabilities is part of the session, we take the time needed to help them feel comfortable and included. These portraits don’t just honor pregnancy; they honor your entire family as it is today. That’s at the heart of disability-inclusive family maternity photography.
Every Child Deserves to Be Seen
I feel deeply honored to photograph families of all kinds, and I believe wholeheartedly that every child deserves an inclusive, joyful photography experience. There is no pressure to perform and no expectation to fit a mold—just space to create portraits that reflect your child’s personality and your family’s beautiful, unique connection.
If you’re looking for a Denver disability-inclusive photographer, or if you’re planning Denver family maternity photos that celebrate your growing family in a genuine and compassionate way, I would love to work with you. Together, we can create portraits that honor your story and the love that defines your family.

The best maternity gowns for your winter session: Denver maternity photographer
Winter has officially arrived in the Denver Front Range! Even though fall felt like it flew by, the mountains are already beginning to welcome their first snow of the season. With November almost over, many expecting mamas looking to schedule now will likely be planning a cold winter maternity session — and winter can be absolutely breathtaking for portraits.
Whether there’s a soft dusting of snow or just the muted golden browns of the winter landscape, this season creates a beautiful, serene backdrop for Denver maternity photography. Choosing the right gown and location becomes even more important in winter, and the right pop of color can completely transform the scene.
Celebrating Your Pregnancy With Style & Confidence
Maternity sessions are truly my passion. I love celebrating the beauty of your pregnancy while helping you feel like the radiant, powerful woman you are. I mean… you’re creating a whole human — that is nothing short of incredible!
One of my very favorite parts of the process is the gowns. A high-quality designer maternity gown can run anywhere from $300–$1,000, and most clients understandably don’t want to invest that much for a single session. That’s exactly why I curate a full designer closet for you.
Nearly 70 Designer Maternity Gowns to Choose From
I currently offer close to 70 designer gowns in a wide range of stunning styles, textures, and colors — perfect for bringing life and vibrancy to winter scenery. The collection includes sizes from XS to XXL, ensuring every mama can find something that fits beautifully and photographs like a dream.
For mini sessions, you’re welcome to one gown to use for your session, and for my standard and deluxe maternity sessions you can choose up to 3. I want you to have variety, comfort, and the freedom to create multiple looks that feel true to you.
I also offer a curated selection of children’s clothing for families with little ones joining the session. Coordinating outfits can make winter portraits feel even more magical.
Styling Short-Sleeved Gowns for Winter Maternity Sessions
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t wear a short-sleeved or sleeveless gown for your maternity session. In fact, these gowns can create a stunning, elegant silhouette — especially when paired with cozy winter accessories.
I provide a wide selection of sweaters, wraps, shawls, and faux fur capes that can be layered over any gown, allowing you to stay warm while adding texture, dimension, and a seasonal touch to your portraits. These layers also give you the flexibility to create multiple looks in one session — a flowing gown alone for dramatic portraits, then layered with a fur cape or delicate wrap for a softer, intimate vibe.
Accessories like these not only keep you comfortable during cooler outdoor shoots but also add visual interest and elegance to your images. With the right combination of gown and layering piece, even a short-sleeved or sleeveless dress can feel fully winter-appropriate — creating portraits that are both beautiful and timeless.
Winter Is a Gorgeous Season for Maternity Photos
If you’re dreaming of a session with soft winter light, cozy textures, or snow-kissed mountain views, now is the perfect time to get your date on the calendar. Winter may be chilly, but it brings a unique kind of beauty — and paired with a show-stopping gown, it’s truly unforgettable.
With expert styling guidance, access to my nearly 70 designer gowns, and a fine-art approach to Denver maternity photography, we’ll create images that feel breathtaking, intentional, and deeply personal.

Quality Over Quantity: The Art of Maternity Photography
As an Arvada maternity photographer, I’ve learned that the heart of a powerful maternity session isn’t found in the number of images delivered, but in the intentional artistry behind each portrait. Colorado fine art maternity photography thrives on this belief—prioritizing meaningful, carefully crafted images that highlight the beauty, emotion, and individuality of every expectant mother.

Understanding What Clients Truly Want
Over the years, I’ve seen a consistent truth: most maternity clients don’t need dozens of images to feel their story is well told. In fact, many mothers find that selecting 10 to 15 of their favorite portraits becomes one of the most meaningful parts of the experience. Curating those selections allows them to connect more deeply with the photographs, appreciating the emotion, detail, and artistry captured in each one.
This intentional approach transforms the final gallery from a collection of pictures into a set of truly cherished memories.
The Power of Letting Moms Choose Their Favorite Images
One of the cornerstones of my process is allowing mothers to choose the images they love most. Instead of receiving a large batch of random photographs selected by me—or whatever the camera captured at its quickest—you get to be an active part of curating your final gallery.
During your viewing and selection appointment, you’ll see all of the beautifully edited proofs and decide which images resonate with you. This gives you complete control over the story your gallery tells. Some moms prefer bold, dramatic fine art portraits, while others gravitate toward soft, intimate moments. Many choose a blend of both. No matter your preferences, you select what feels meaningful, empowering you to create a collection that reflects your unique journey.
This ensures that every image in your final collection is one you’re excited to print, share, and display—because it was chosen with intention.
The Power of a Curated Collection
In a world where thousands of photos are taken on our phones every month, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by sheer volume. Fine art maternity photography offers the opposite experience—a return to thoughtful curation. Most clients ultimately print a few portraits that resonate deeply and select a handful to share online.
These carefully chosen images become the ones framed in hallways, displayed in nurseries, and passed down for years. Their value comes not from how many images exist, but from how beautifully they capture the emotion of this season.
Delivering Excellence in Colorado Fine Art Maternity Photography
My goal as an Arvada maternity photographer is to create portraits that feel like artwork—intentional, striking, and deeply personal. Rather than overwhelming clients with hundreds of images, I dedicate time to styling, posing, lighting, and editing each selected portrait with care.
By focusing on quality over quantity, I can pour my attention into the moments that matter most, resulting in a gallery that feels cohesive, elevated, and reflective of your personality and story.
The Joy of Preserving Meaningful Moments
There is something incredibly special about watching clients react to their final portraits. When expectant mothers receive a curated collection that speaks to who they are, their joy is unmistakable. These portraits become more than images—they become heirlooms that hold the emotions, anticipation, and love of this extraordinary time in their lives.
Delivering artwork that clients are excited to print, share, and display is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
In the end, fine art maternity photography is not about how many images you receive—it’s about how those images make you feel.
By emphasizing quality over quantity, I strive to create maternity portraits that are not only beautiful, but meaningful, memorable, and truly worthy of this remarkable journey.

Arvada Maternity Photographer: Celebrating Connection in Every Form
One of the most beautiful things about working as a Arvada Colorado maternity photographer is showing expecting mothers that they get to decide who is part of their story. A maternity session can be tailored to include the people who mean the most to you—whether that’s mom on her own, mom with her partner, mom and kids, grandparents, or even unique family dynamics like a surrogate with the baby’s parents. There is no single “right way” to do maternity portraits. The right way is the one that feels authentic to you.

There is no single “right way” to do maternity portraits. The right way is the one that feels authentic to you.
The Joy of Inclusion
In one session that stands out, Dad happened to be out of town on the scheduled date. When I offered to move the session, mom let me know that portraits were really her thing—something she had been dreaming about—and she wanted to move forward even without him.
It’s important to share that Dad is a loving husband and a very involved parent. But like many families, sometimes one partner is more drawn to the idea of portraits than the other. In this case, maternity photography was especially meaningful to mom, and she embraced the chance to create a session that reflected her vision.
Rather than postponing, she chose to celebrate this season with her children and her own mother, who plays a crucial role in their lives. That choice created an opportunity to tell a story that was uniquely hers—one centered on motherhood, family connection, and the bonds she wanted to honor.
This particular session took place at Red Rocks in nearby Morrison CO, a location that brought its own magic to the experience. The sweeping views and dramatic formations created a breathtaking stage for portraits that felt both intimate and timeless, while still keeping the focus on the family and the love between them.
Capturing the Essence of Maternity
As an Arvada maternity photographer, I believe that the best images are the ones that carry meaning far beyond the photo itself. The portraits from this session reflect relationships that will be treasured for years to come: a mother’s steady presence, children held close, and the irreplaceable connection with their grandmother.
These photographs are more than images—they are keepsakes. One day, they will be looked back on as a reminder of the love that surrounded this season of life, the people who showed up, and the bonds that shaped their story.
A Lesson in Flexibility
This session was a reminder that maternity portraits don’t need to fit a single mold. Life is full of different circumstances, schedules, and personalities. What matters most is honoring the relationships that are there. By focusing on mom, her children, and their grandmother, this session became a celebration of love and the ties that hold families together.
Celebrating Diverse Family Narratives
Every maternity journey is unique. Some portraits may include every family member, while others highlight a smaller circle of those most present in daily life. What remains consistent is the meaning behind the images: they serve as reminders of connection, belonging, and love.
And sometimes, those stories are most powerful when they break free from expectations of what maternity portraits “should” look like.
A Gentle Reminder for Expectant Mothers
As you plan your maternity session, remember that you have the freedom to choose. Invite the people who mean the most to you, in whatever combination feels right. Whether that’s your partner, your children, grandparents, or someone who holds a special place in your heart, those are the connections worth capturing.
Let’s Tell Your Story
Your maternity journey is unique—and it deserves to be remembered. Whether it’s just you and your children, you with your partner, or multiple generations together, I’d be honored to help preserve these moments as heirlooms for years to come.

Celebrating Real Beauty: Before and After Maternity Picture Edits
In the world of photography, especially during significant moments like maternity shoots, authenticity shines brightly. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with my beautiful friend Samantha, and I’m excited to share her before and after maternity pictures.
In the world of photography, especially during significant moments like maternity shoots, authenticity shines brightly. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with my beautiful friend Samantha, and I’m excited to share her before and after maternity pictures.
Samantha is the kind of woman who embraces her body and its unique features. During our session, she made the conscious choice to keep her scars visible, celebrating them as a part of who she is. Scars represent her journey, but they don’t define her—they simply are a part of her true self.
As a photographer, I strongly believe in highlighting each client's individual beauty. While I often edit out temporary imperfections like pimples and bruises to create polished images, I also respect my clients’ desires regarding their unique characteristics. I offer the option to include or exclude scars, moles, birth marks and stretch marks in their photos, depending on what makes them feel most comfortable and authentic.
For this blog post, I want to share two images of Samantha: one with her scars and one without. This choice showcases my ability to edit these features out if desired, but it also highlights how Samantha embraces her scars. She radiates beauty and strength in both images.
In a photography landscape where editing and filters can often distort reality, I believe it’s essential to celebrate the beauty of our true selves. Samantha’s confidence in showcasing her scars serves as a powerful reminder that there’s strength in embracing every part of who we are.
I want to assure all my clients that I am more than willing to accommodate your preferences, whether you feel self-conscious about your scars or other permanent marks or confidently choose to embrace them. Ultimately, my goal is to capture your true essence and make you feel beautiful in your skin.
Thank you, Samantha, for allowing me to capture this beautiful moment in your life. Your strength and beauty shine through in every image, inspiring us all to celebrate our authenticity.

Styling Your Family to Complement Your Maternity Gown
When it comes to planning your maternity shoot, one of the most important aspects is styling your family to create a cohesive and beautiful look. The goal is to highlight your stunning gown while ensuring that your loved ones look polished and put together. Here’s how to achieve that perfect balance in your family styling.
When it comes to planning your maternity shoot, one of the most important aspects is styling your family to create a cohesive and beautiful look. The goal is to highlight your stunning gown while ensuring that your loved ones look polished and put together. Here’s how to achieve that perfect balance in your family styling.
1. Choose Nice Clothing for Your Family
For a luxury maternity session, it’s essential that your family’s attire reflects a higher level of elegance. This means opting for nicer clothing that elevates the overall aesthetic of the shoot. Consider options such as:
Button-Down Shirts: A crisp button-down shirt can add sophistication and structure. Choose colors that complement your gown while remaining stylish.
Suits or Blazers: For dads and older siblings, a well-fitted suit or blazer instantly enhances the look. This formal touch can make the family photos feel timeless and elegant.
Nice Vests: A tailored vest can be a great alternative to a full suit, offering a polished appearance without being overly formal. Pair it with a dress shirt for a refined look.
Elegant Dresses for Children: If you have little ones, consider dressing them in elegant outfits that coordinate with the overall color scheme without overshadowing your gown.
2. Avoid Matching Colors
While it may be tempting to have your family wear the same color as your gown, this approach can detract from the focus on your beautiful baby bump. Instead, aim for coordination rather than matching. Here’s how to do that:
Choose Complementary Colors: Select colors for your family’s outfits that work harmoniously with the color of your gown. For example, if you’re wearing a soft blush gown, consider dressing your family in shades of cream, gray, or muted pastels that won’t compete for attention.
Use Different Textures: Coordinate colors, but play with different textures to add depth and interest. For example, a velvet blazer on dad can create a beautiful contrast with a silk gown.
Consider Patterns Wisely: If you want to introduce patterns, choose subtle designs that won’t overpower the overall look. Small checks or delicate florals can add a touch of personality while keeping the focus on you.
3. Incorporate Accessories
Accessories can enhance the overall styling without taking away from your gown. Here are some ideas:
Stylish Shoes: Ensure that everyone’s footwear is polished and stylish. Consider dress shoes for adults and nice flats for children.
Jewelry: You may want to choose delicate jewelry for yourself that complements your gown, while family members can wear matching accessories to tie their looks together.
Seasonal Touches: Depending on the season, consider adding elements like scarves, hats, or shawls that can introduce texture and warmth to the family’s outfits.
4. Quick Changes for More Than One Gown
If you plan to wear more than one gown during your maternity shoot, consider how your family can coordinate their outfits with quick styling changes. Here are some tips:
Change Dad’s Tie: If you’re switching to a different gown, a simple change of tie can create a fresh look. Choose a tie that complements the new gown’s color and enhances the overall style.
Swap Suit Coats: Instead of a full outfit change, dad can switch to a different suit coat that coordinates with your new gown. This allows for a seamless transition while still keeping a polished appearance.
Add or Remove Accessories: Kids can change their accessories, like bow ties or hair clips, to match your gown changes without needing a complete outfit switch.
Layering Options: For cooler weather, consider using layers that can be easily added or removed. A stylish jacket or shawl can enhance the look and be taken off when you switch gowns.
5. Communicate with Your Photographer
We’ll begin with a styling appointment where we’ll select your gown and accessories, and discuss wardrobe options for the rest of your family. If you need to purchase any clothing after our appointment for your family, please be sure to send photos of your selections. Once your color palette and outfits are finalized, share them with me—I’ll offer feedback on how everything will photograph together to ensure your session looks polished and cohesive on camera.
Conclusion
Styling your family for your maternity shoot is all about creating a polished and cohesive look that enhances your stunning gown while allowing your baby bump to take center stage. By choosing nicer clothing, avoiding the urge to match colors, and incorporating thoughtful accessories, you can achieve a beautifully coordinated family portrait that you’ll cherish for years to come. Embrace this special time in your life, and let your family shine alongside your radiant glow!

The Art of Photography: Why Quality Takes Time - Arvada Maternity Photographer
As a photographer, I often get asked why finished portraits can take 6 to 8 weeks to deliver after the selection appointment. While I understand the excitement of wanting to see your images, it’s important to clarify that I am not an express photographer. Each portrait I create is more than just a snapshot; it is a carefully crafted piece of art that deserves the time and attention necessary to achieve the highest quality.
#### 1. **The Creative Process**
Photography is an art form that requires a thoughtful and creative approach. From the moment I click the shutter, I’m not just capturing a moment; I’m envisioning how that moment will translate into a stunning piece of art. Each session is unique, and I take the time to understand the vision and emotions behind every shoot.
#### 2. **Editing: The Heart of the Artwork**
The editing process is where the magic truly happens. After a session, I spend considerable time refining each portrait to bring out its full potential. This can take anywhere from one to two hours per image. Here’s why:
- **Color Correction**: I meticulously adjust colors to ensure they are true to life while also enhancing the overall aesthetic of the image. This includes correcting skin tones, adjusting lighting, and ensuring that the colors are vibrant yet natural.
- **Retouching**: I believe in providing portraits that celebrate the beauty of my clients. This means carefully retouching each image to highlight their best features while maintaining authenticity. This process involves smoothing skin, enhancing eyes, and removing distractions, all while keeping the essence of the person intact.
- **Artistic Enhancements**: Beyond basic edits, I often add artistic touches that reflect my vision for the portrait. This could include adjusting contrast, adding filters, or applying creative effects to elevate the overall look of the image.
#### 3. **The Importance of Patience**
I understand that waiting for your finished gallery can be challenging, especially when you’re excited to see the results of your session. However, I truly believe that great art takes time. Rushing the editing process would compromise the quality of your portraits, and I am committed to delivering work that I can be proud of—and that you will cherish for years to come.
#### 4. **The Timeline Explained**
Given the time-intensive nature of my editing process, the turnaround for finished galleries typically spans anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks from the time you select your portraits at your selection appointment. This timeline allows me to dedicate the necessary time to each portrait while ensuring that every detail is perfect. I appreciate your understanding and patience during this period, as it ultimately results in a collection of images that are not just photographs, but works of art.
### Conclusion
In a world where instant gratification is the norm, I strive to remind my clients that some things are worth the wait. The portraits I create are a reflection of artistry, dedication, and passion. I want you to feel the care and effort that goes into each image, and I promise that the final results will be well worth the wait. Thank you for trusting me with your memories, and I look forward to sharing the beauty of your moments through my lens!

Your Essential Maternity Session Checklist: Preparing for the Perfect Photo Shoot
You’ve scheduled your maternity session, and we’ve completed your in-home fitting and styling appointment—now it’s time to prepare for your big day! What are some things you need to do before your session to ensure everything goes smoothly and you feel your absolute best? This checklist will guide you through the final steps leading up to your maternity photoshoot so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
1. Choose the Right Undergarments
Many of the gowns I provide are off-the-shoulder, so be sure to bring a well-fitting strapless bra to ensure a seamless look in your photos.
Keep in mind that you may be changing in public areas, so wearing something like maternity Spanx or shapewear can help you feel more comfortable.
2. Schedule Hair and Makeup
You may want to treat yourself to professional hair and makeup for your session. Schedule this appointment well in advance. I have several stylist that I have worked with in the past if you would like a recommendation. It can also help to have specific images ready on how you would like your hair and makeup to look.
3. Get Your Nails Done
Your hands will be prominent in many of your photos, whether cradling your baby bump or holding your partner's hand. Make sure your nails look polished and well-groomed to complement your overall look. A neutral or classic color is always a great choice!
4. Prepare Your Outfits
I will bring the gowns and accessories we selected for you during your in-home fitting.
Make sure to prepare the outfits we discussed for the rest of the family well in advance. Once you have everything together, send me photos so I can review them and let you know if anything may not work well with the chosen gowns.
5. Plan Your Footwear
Wear comfortable shoes to your session, especially if we’ll be walking to a scenic location. However, bring a pair of heels to change into for some elegant, styled shots. The right footwear can elevate your look while ensuring you stay comfortable.
If your children are participating in the session, make sure they wear neutral or plain shoes rather than bright ones with characters, which can be distracting in photos.
6. Prepare Your Skin
Consider a gentle skincare routine leading up to your session. Hydrate and moisturize to achieve that glowing skin look.
7. Get Plenty of Rest
Ensure you’re well-rested leading up to the day of the shoot. A good night’s sleep can help you feel more energized and look your best.
8. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
On the day of your shoot, drink plenty of water (but not too close to your session time) and eat a light meal. This will help you feel comfortable and energized.
9. Leave Extra Time in Your Day
To ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience, plan for extra time in your schedule on the day of your session. Assume that everything—getting ready, traveling, and last-minute adjustments—will take 15-20 minutes longer than expected. Giving yourself this buffer will help you arrive feeling calm and unhurried, ready to enjoy your session.
10. Relax and Enjoy the Moment
Finally, remember to take a deep breath and enjoy the experience. This is a special time in your life, and your maternity session should be a celebration of that journey.
Conclusion
Preparing for your maternity session can be a fun and exciting process! By following this checklist, you’ll ensure that you’re well-prepared and can focus on enjoying your time in front of the camera. Embrace this beautiful chapter of your life, and let your personality shine through in your photos!

The Ideal Time to Book Your Maternity Portrait Session: Why 28 to 36 Weeks is Best
As a Denver area maternity photographer for the past 17 years, and as a mom of 5 myself, I know that capturing the beauty of pregnancy through maternity portraits is a cherished experience for expectant mothers. As you prepare for this exciting new chapter in your life, it’s important to consider the timing of your photoshoot. The optimal window for booking your maternity session is between 28 and 36 weeks. Here’s why this timeframe is ideal and why you should reach out to your photographer by 20 weeks to secure your spot.

The Perfect Baby Bump
Between 28 and 36 weeks, your baby bump is typically at its most prominent and beautiful. During this period, you’ll have a lovely roundness that showcases the miracle of life growing inside you, while still being comfortable enough to pose and move around. Many mothers find that they feel their best during this time, embracing their changing bodies and the anticipation of welcoming their new baby.
Timing for Comfort and Energy
As you approach your due date, physical discomfort and fatigue may increase, making it harder to fully enjoy a photoshoot. By scheduling your session earlier, you can avoid the stress and discomfort that can come in the final weeks of pregnancy. Capturing your maternity portraits before the last few weeks allows you to feel more energetic and confident, resulting in beautiful images that reflect your joy and excitement.
Scheduling and Availability
Photographers often have busy schedules, especially during peak seasons for maternity sessions. By contacting your photographer by 20 weeks, you ensure that you have ample time to discuss your vision, choose the perfect location, and plan for any wardrobe adjustments. This early booking gives you the necessary time to schedule a fitting appointment and coordinate outfits for any family members who will be joining you in the session.
Customizing Your Experience
When you reach out early, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with your photographer on the details of your session. Whether you’re dreaming of an enchanting outdoor mountain shoot or a spot closer to home, booking in advance allows you to tailor the experience to fit your unique style and preferences. Plus, discussing your ideas early on means you can plan for any potential weather-related changes or special requests, like incorporating props or specific themes.
Capturing the Moment
Maternity portraits are more than just pictures; they are a celebration of the love and anticipation surrounding the arrival of your little one. By choosing to schedule your session between 28 and 36 weeks, you’re allowing your photographer to capture this fleeting moment in time beautifully. You’ll be able to look back on these images and remember the excitement, love, and joy you felt as you prepared to welcome your new addition into the world.
In Conclusion
Booking your maternity portrait session between 28 and 36 weeks is the best way to ensure you capture the beauty of this special time in your life. Don’t forget to reach out to your photographer by 20 weeks to get everything scheduled. This early planning will allow you to enjoy the experience fully and create lasting memories that you and your family will cherish for years to come. Embrace this beautiful journey and let your maternity portraits tell the story of your love and anticipation as you await the arrival of your little one!

Mountain maternity session | Evergreen Colorado Maternity Photographer
Sasha received the full luxury experience starting with hair and makeup by Francesca Nicole, and she looked like an absolute QUEEN for her session. She was so excited about wearing the gold Blair gown from my collection which made me happy since the gown had been recently added to my client closet and not yet worn. She excitedly told me when she saw this image that she looked like Pocahantas! I have to admit with the wind in her hair and am getting some Pocahantas “colors of the wind” vibes!
I’m excited to finally share images from one of my favorite recent maternity sessions! I met Sasha in the maternity group that I offer each year for local expecting women. Myself and a couple of other local business owners who work with new moms create and moderate a Facebook group every year for expecting mothers to get to know each other and find support form others in a similar place in life. If you are expecting check out this years group here:

We met at one of my favorite Evergreen, Colorado locations along Squaw pass. I love this area because it is beautiful in every season! Fall at this spot did not disappoint. The yellow aspen leaves against the evergreen trees were just stunning and the gold gown just echoed their beautify.
The baby’s dad and big brother joined us for the shoot and I could definitely see how excited they both were for a new baby boy to join the family! I love when other children are involved in a maternity shoot and seeing how excited they are!
Sasha also selected a second gown for her session, this beautiful wine-colored Kiara gown. The Gold was definitely my favorite on her but the wine was beautiful too!

When to book your maternity session | Denver family photographer
Choosing the right time for your maternity session is very important. If you do your session too early then you may not have a clearly defined baby bump, but if you wait too long to do your session you risk missing out if you go into labor early. I have also found the last month of pregnancy my clients are very uncomfortable in many of the poses and tend to not look as relaxed during their session.

I have also found the last month of pregnancy my clients are very uncomfortable in many of the poses and tend to not look as relaxed during their session.
So when is the perfect time for maternity portraits?
For most women, I recommend between 30-36 weeks. For first-time moms who may show a little later aim for around 34 weeks unless you are showing any signs of preterm labor. If this isn’t your first pregnancy and like me, you looked pregnant much earlier in the pregnancy, you can aim for 30-34 weeks.
Mothers of multiples
If you are expecting more than one baby you may want to plan for your session right at 30 weeks or even slightly before due to higher risk of preterm labor and also because you are going to get uncomfortable in the poses way earlier than moms carrying a single baby.
When should you contact your photographer?
Honestly it is really never too early to contact your photographer and get on their books. Often during busy season I book up several months in advance. I also occasionally run specials where you can order a gown for your session and be reimbursed in the form of a print credit for those who want a gown not already offered in my gown collection. When I do these sales the gown needs to be ordered 6 weeks prior to your session. Either way it is a good idea to contact me by around 20 weeks to start planning your maternity session.

What should my family wear for my maternity session? | Denver Materntiy Photographer
Last year I published a blog all about what to wear for your maternity session. Today I want to take that a step further for sessions involving dad or older children. Now that you know what you are wearing, what do you put them in? Here are a few of my top tips for dressing dad and your other babies!

Now that you know what you are wearing, what do you put them in? Here are a few of my top tips for dressing dad and your other babies!
1. Coordinate, don’t match!
This is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make when choosing clothing for photo shoots and it’s even more important when it comes to maternity portraits. The last thing you want it for your baby bump to blend into dads shirt. Having dad or the kids in a color that looks great with your gown but doesn’t match it allows you and your baby bump to shine in the portraits!
2. Choose solid colors
There are definitely exceptions to this rule but overall a solid color is typically best for dad and the kids. Again this allows mom to shine in the photos so your eye is drawn to her, not to a patterned shirt.
3. Dress it up
I love it when dad wears a suit, vest, suspenders, or even a tux (yes, I have had dad show up in a tux for the session!) but, even if your man or little men are not suit kind of guys I highly recommend a nice button-down shirt for the session even if they choose to pair it with some nice jeans. I have photographed moms in my maternity gowns with dad in a polo or t-shirt and honestly, dad just looked out of place. A nice shirt on dad honestly makes all the difference. For you little girls I have a variety of nice dresses that will match the look and feel of the maternity gowns without distracting from you so make sure to give me your little girls size so I can show you what I have available for her for the shoot.
4. Comfort is still important
While this does contradict the tip above stay with me for a moment. I get it dad and kids may not be 100% on board with being part of this shoot. Unfortunately, sometimes that is just the case. If having to dress nicely is going to result in a grumpy participant then go with comfort over style. This sample photo…her son is wearing sweat pants below that polo shirt., and we made it work. I always say have them wear the nicest thing you can get them to happily wear. Although there is nothing wrong with also slipping a nicer option in the car to see if you can get a few shots in it too!
Still feeling lost? Don’t stress it, as part of my service I will come to you for a dress fitting and family clothing consultation before the shoot. You can try on the gowns and we will look through your partner and kid’s closets to see what you have that coordinates. Ready to learn more? Levonia's Mountain Maternity Session | Morrison Colorado Photographer
Winter maternity session in Morrison Colorado.
Every once in a while despite my 15 years of experience and careful session prep, a session doesn’t go quite as planned.
I had the honor of creating portrait art for so many awesome clients in 2021. I was so busy during the fall that I never had the chance to show off all of the images on my blog. I am starting with this session from the end of October because most of the leaves had fallen and this location should look very similar to this most of the winter, with the possible addition of some snow on the ground.
I met Levonia through my 2021 expecting moms group. Every year for the past 3 years myself and 2 other professionals in the birth/maternity/newborn fields have hosted a Facebook group to help new moms connect and navigate pregnancy and motherhood. If you are expecting in 2022 please join us in this years group.
I loved Levonia from the moment I met her during our zoom consultation. She is so sweet and outgoing and was so excited about capturing her maternity portraits and getting to use my gowns.
On the day of her session, I arranged for a hair and makeup artist to go to her home and help her get ready for the session. All of my maternity and family sessions include hair and makeup as part of the services I provide. I want to make sure every mama looks and feels her best for the session.
I met up with Levonia and her husband Andy up at Meyer Ranch Park in Morrison in late October. I have to say that this fall was like nothing I have ever seen before, normally the fall color is gone in the mountains by around the first week of October but it lasted through most of the month and down in Denver through much of November. I chose this location because the mountain views and evergreen trees make it a great spot year-round but, I was pleasantly surprised to find bits of yellow left when we arrived.
Every once in a while despite my 15 years of experience and careful session prep, a session doesn’t go quite as planned. Due to circumstances outside of their control, my clients arrived a little late to this session. Luckily I had scheduled with about a 30-minute extra buffer before sunset, so when they arrived we still had almost 90 minutes until sunset. We started up a small incline taking our time and stopping for portraits as we went. We were about 25 minutes into the session and halfway up the hill when Levonia mentioned that she was a little light-headed. Unfortunately, the nearest place to sit was up at the top of the hill so we turned the rolling suitcase into a place to sit and I held it in place while her husband ran to go get her water from the car. I’m not going to lie, there was a moment where I thought I was going to have to attempt to catch here and I pictured both of us lying on the ground lol. Luckily her husband arrived with the water and after drinking some she was up to continue to the top of the hill where there was a real place for her to sit and rest for a bit.
The downside to this delay was that we missed sunset to allow her to rest and make sure she was ok. The good news is the bench was next to the restrooms and after resting she was able to change and into the other gown she had selected and get some shots that were outside of my usual style, after dark. Back in my days of being a natural light photographer I would have had to cut this session short after the first gown however my expertise in off-camera flash allowed me to shoot for a short time after the sun dipped behind the mountains. The end result was that even between them arriving late and us pausing the session partway through I was still able to create my average 30+ portraits for them to choose their wall art from, and they still loved the images!
After talking to her a bit, I realized that her and her husband had only moved to Colorado, from a sea-level start, around a year before. On top of not being used to the altitude, she had not been drinking much water that day in all the excitement of getting ready for the session. So a few tips for your session to prevent this from happening again.
!. Hydrate: 1/2 your body weight in oz. of water is the recommended water intake for most people, however when dealing with high altitude drinking more is normally a good idea.
2. Let me know if you are new to Colorado. There are many beautiful Colorado locations I can recommend for those who may not do well with the high altitude.
3. Bring water with you. This goes back to #1 Hydrate.
Not every session is going to go exactly to plan, however, when working with a true professional you will still get amazing images in the end. I am so happy I was able to create images for my clients that they were excited to hang in their home. Here are a few of my favorites from the session!

What should I wear for my maternity session? | Denver Colorado maternity photography
If you are looking at having maternity photos done you have probably seen hundreds of shots where mom is wearing a gorgeous gown that makes her look like a goddess, or princess, or just amazing! You may be dreaming of the perfect gown, but in your mind wondering if it is worth spending the money for a dress you will wear once. Many of us photographers have been dreaming of taking your photos in that perfect gown and have, like me, started a collection, or client closet, for their clients to use. As I write this in August 2021 my gown collection consists of 23 gowns size small to XL and I’ll admit, I was looking at a new one today!

As I write this in August 2021 my gown collection consists of 23 gowns size small to XL and I’ll admit, I was looking at a new one today!
I have a range of gowns so I wanted to put together this blog with some tips on finding the right one for you!
Flowy of form-fitting?
Personally, I love both, and both can be beautiful for your session. Form-fitting gowns give me a little more freedom for posing your hands, they don’t have to be on your belly for every shot because that gown is going to show it off! Flowy gowns are popular however because many moms want to feel like a princess at their session and the flowy gowns definitely give that vibe! They are also more forgiving if you are not really sure what size you need, they typically fit a size larger or smaller than the size on their tag.
Do you want to toss?
You probably just thought huh? Unless you are as obsessed with designer maternity gowns as I am, then you may have known exactly what I meant. Many high-end maternity gowns are designed with what is called a tossing train. These trains can be a lot of fun at your session for all kinds of dramatic shots, just be warned I may put the baby’s dad to work tossing if for us!
Even if we choose not to toss the gown it can be perfect for dramatic images with the gown laid on the ground. I have added a variety of images below with my tossing train gowns so you can see both the toss and non-tossed train.
What Color should you wear?
Color can be used to tell a story, like the gender of your baby, or that this baby is your rainbow, the joy after a loss. But choosing color can also just be about choosing the best tones for your skin color.
Cool skin tones
Colors that will compliment your skin tone include; Green/Emerald, purples, light or bright blue, sage green, light pink, very pale yellows, reds, bright white, gray, or navy.
Warm skin tones
Colors that will compliment your skin tone include; Green, brown, mustard yellow, warmer reds, peach, coral, gold, olive or moss green, plum or magenta purple.
Not sure which you are? I found this quiz that helps you find out, don’t worry it doesn’t ask for any contact info! https://www.popsugar.com/beauty/Warm-Cool-Undertones-Quiz-1843402
I am always expanding my collection so while some of these shades aren’t currently included I am hoping they will be very soon!
What do I do if you just can’t choose?
Don’t worry, you don’t have to choose just one! You can choose up to 3 different gowns to wear for your session! I will help you choose up to 3 unique looks for your session. I want this to be a session you will never forget!
What accessories should you wear?
I also provide accessories for your session! I hand make all of my floral crowns so that they match perfectly with my gowns. They are often made with a specific client in mind, for example, a mommy and me set made for a maternity shoot with a 3-year-old big sister participating. Or, the purple and red crown I made for the session where mom was wearing my plum colored gown and dad was wearing a red shirt. The crown tied the colors together perfectly! In addition to the florals, I offer glam accessories like gemstone sashes, jewelry, and crown. I will help you perfectly match your accessories not only to your gown but also to coordinate with anyone else participating in the session!
Throughout this post I have shown many of the gowns I offer currently however I am always adding new ones to my collection! Take a look at my collection here and contact me today to schedule a consultation to select your gown and accessories!
